Upcoming Events at the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens Summer 2013

Nature’s Children Summer Camp

This fantastic summer camp is for kids is for ages 5-10 (Gan Hova to 4th Grade). The summer camp is approved by the Jerusalem Municipality and the Israeli Education Ministry. It is staffed by mature and professional counselors who will teach children the science of the environment in a fun way that they can understand.

First camp: July 1-18

Second camp: July 21-August 8

Cost: NIS 1,480, with an additional NIS 500 for the afternoon program.

10% discount for Gardens members, a second child and/or a single parent family.

Past Happenings

There were a number of upcoming events scheduled in Jerusalem this May and June, with the stunning Botanical Gardens providing the inviting setting. The public was invited to experience a variety of activities with everything from a Wine and Jazz Festival, Botanical and Walking Tours, Bonsai Awards and a Nature’s Children Summer Camp.

Walking Tours and Botanical Tours

Israel Friends of the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens organizes walking tours that last around 90 minutes and are scheduled for early evening to avoid the heat of summer. All tours depart from the Visitors’ Center. The Botanical tours are guided by the Gardens’ science staff or outside experts. Water plants– From the Lake to the Guggenheim Pond (Walking tour)  June 18, Tues. 5:00 pm

Bonsai – A Living Sculpture

Bonsai Awards and Conference June 14-20

This exciting conference was held June 14 -20. An award of NIS 3,000 was given for the most inventive and artistic Bonsai tree of the year. For further information about current events, phone: (02) 679-4012.

Wine and Jazz Festival

Plan for a great time next year in one of Jerusalem’s most beautiful settings. The Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 pm held a wine and jazz festival partnered with Yehuda Wineries. The event took place right inside the magnificent gardens under the stars around the beautiful pond in full bloom with lotus lilies. The admission price of NIS 60 (NIS 50 for members) included a free glass of wine and one round of tastings. To inquire about further events, phone: (02) 679-4012.

Did You Know?

The Judean Hills were a center for wine production more than 3000 years ago and probably wine for the Temples was produced here. In Jerusalem’s White Valley, Emek HaLavan there are archaeological remains of a winery from the First Temple period during the time of King Hezekiah, Hiskiyahu Ha’melech.
